History

The Lower Mainland Network for Affordable Housing was formed in 1992 to promote the maintenance and development of affordable housing in Lower Mainland communities; and to support information sharing among housing providers, researchers, professionals and community groups.

Over the past decade the work of the Network, in partnership with the Tenants Rights Action Coalition (TRAC), has resulted in more municipalities with legal suite by-laws and a continued provincial housing program. Network particpants encouraged the federal government’s involvement in funding homelessness projects and the current reinvestment in new affordable housing options. The Network has worked to bring the housing community together and provided a forum for policy discussion and a means for getting our issues heard.

The Network Steering Committee provides direction and addresses management issues. Coast Foundation Society has acted as host and sponsoring non-profit agency for the Network for many years. In the past some of the key groups around the table have been:

  • Downtown Eastside Residents Association
  • Tenants Rights Action Coalition
  • BC Women’s Housing Coalition
  • Innovative Housing Society
  • Coast Foundation Society
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Smart Growth BC
  • BC Housing
  • City of Vancouver
  • BC Non-Profit Housing Association
  • Mole Hill Community Housing Society
  • Women in Search of Housing Society
  • Greater Vancouver Housing Corporation
