Provincial Call for Seniors Supportive Housing

Province-wide Request for Proposals ends January 10th, 2008

BC Housing has issued a B.C. wide call for proposals intended for non-profit societies interested in partnering with BC Housing to provide housing with support services, posted on BC Housing's website, see link below.

The RFP closing date has been extended to January 10, 2008.

A call for proposals has been issued for non-profit societies who currently operate a senior’s housing development and are interested in partnering with BC Housing to provide Seniors' Supportive Housing . The call is for approximately 300 units of supportive housing in the non-profit sector that will be funded through the Seniors' Supportive Housing program. This call is intended for non-profit societies who are interested in retrofitting and upgrading their existing developments into supportive housing.

The Seniors' Supportive Housing program is being financed with the government’s Budget 2007 commitment of $45 million over four years to upgrade or convert up to 750 subsidized housing units to supportive housing. Renovations are already underway at 11 subsidized housing developments, totaling about 500 housing units. The outcome of the proposal call for an additional 300 units means that close to 800 housing units will be converted with the budget commitment.

Housing enhanced under the Seniors' Supportive Housing program will offer specifically modified homes to low-income seniors or individuals with disabilities who need assistance in order to continue to live independently. The program focuses on capital improvements, upgraded safety systems and introducing a supportive services package such as 24 hour emergency response, accommodations, meal services and social and recreational activities.
